Y-Path PE 4 Me Y-PATH (Youth Physical Activity Towards Health) PE 4 ME is a junior cycle post-primary programme which aims to improve physical activity among children and young people through the physical education (PE) module in the school curriculum. The programme is bought to you as a result of a collaboration between the Irish Heart Foundation and Dublin City University. The programme is available only to PE teachers. Teachers must complete the 1 hour online course on the IHF website www.irishheart.ie before attending the face to face training. Teachers will be given a Y-PATH resource pack with lesson plans, posters, student journals, as well as access to an online teacher’s portal containing digital resources to assist with lessons.

These meetings will give you a chance to address personal needs, build relationships with other local stakeholders and discuss issues relating to the development & practice of computing in education. At meetings we will begin by catching up, then negotiating activities to collaborate on, and finally forming groups to work on those activities.

Activities in the meeting are to address YOUR needs in practice and might include:

        EVALUATING resources to contribute or curate the CompSci database,

        IMPROVING knowledge of a new programming language,

        EXPLORING data structures or queries,

        MAKING artefacts driven by micro-controllers,

        DISCUSSING student misconceptions about a particular curriculum topic,

        SHARING assessment techniques both formative & summative or

        DESIGNING a lesson and evaluate its effectiveness by joining in a lesson study group.

This interactive teacher CPD showcases leading practice in the use of Izak9, as well as an introduction to new tasks and activities.

This session is suitable for current users as well as those considering introducing Izak9 to their school.

NIPTWS11: The focus of this workshop is the practical implementation of the principles of good mathematics teaching in everyday classroom practice. Emphasis is placed on the development of number sense, mathematical language, problem-solving skills, and mental and oral maths activities in the classroom. ** LITERACY AND NUMERACY FOR LEARNING AND LIFE: The National Strategy to Improve Literacy and Numeracy among Children and Young People 2011‐2020 (DES: 2011) is a key reference document for this workshop.

Aims of the workshop: • To consider what constitutes a critical incident in various school settings. • To outline four steps in developing a critical incident response plan • To consider appropriate responses in sample cases which have occurred in Irish schools and to share learnings and good practice from experiences of previous incidents. Participants will have the opportunity to: • To identify protective structures and practices in schools • To share ideas on the promotion of a caring ethos of physical and psychological safety in a school which can lessen the impact of a critical incident, should it arise • Review a NEPS template to generate a critical incident management policy appropriate to the needs of a post-primary school community.
