22LC 10 010 - ADHD in Primary Schools

Online ADHD in Primary Schools

WORKSHOPS TAKE PLACE ON TUESDAY 15th, 22nd & 29th NOVEMBER

Understanding what ADHD is (and isn’t) and how it affects the brain and behaviour of children is essential knowledge for all teachers and SNAs, since at least 1 in 20 people are known to live with these neurological differences. This three-part course presents the most current research and thinking around ADHD, including strategies and approaches that will help you bring out the best from an ADHD child in your classroom.

It will explore how the brain of a child with ADHD functions differently to that of a typical child, including difficulties with executive functioning, anxiety and emotional regulation. Importantly, it will also discuss how ADHD can present differently in girls and how educators can mitigate the unique risk factors associated with ADHD in this gender.

The course takes a very practical approach, equipping you with a range of skills and hands-on strategies, drawing upon a range of therapeutic disciplines for supporting learning and self-regulation. By the end of the course, you will have acquired a bank of strategies for use in supporting:

· Attention and organisation

· Emotion regulation and social skills development

· Positive self-perception, self-esteem & confidence

· Parents/carers of children with ADHD

The course will be delivered by Lucy Mannion of TINT Education, a qualified teacher with two postgraduate psychology degrees who has worked in special education and mental health for more than a decade. Having been diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, Lucy identifies as neurodivergent and can apply lived-experience in understanding the difficulties encountered by children with ADHD in schools. Lucy’s work is grounded in empowering teachers to deliver outstanding outcomes for those who present with difficulties in behaviour and emotional regulation as a result of neurological differences.
