Blackrock Education Centre
Statement from the Chairperson concerning the change of Director of the Centre - 27 August 2021
Dr Susan Gibney
I would like to pay a special tribute to Dr Susan Gibney who will have led the work of the Centre for almost five years when her secondment comes to an end on 31 August 2021. Susan brought a warm and caring leadership style to the Centre and her professionalism has imbued every aspect of the work which is done here. The diversity of the courses and training on offer at the Centre pay a rich tribute to her leadership and to the hard work of the staff who have been motivated and led by her. One of the most effective of the new initiatives which Dr Gibney introduced was the Nurture programme which can make a really fundamental difference to the lives of the pupils who experience it. Dr Gibney will be continuing her work with Nurture in a personal capacity when she ceases her work as Director of the Centre.
I have enjoyed working with Dr Gibney since I became Chairperson and I thank her for the benefit of her wisdom and experience on many occasions. On behalf of the Management Committee and staff of the Centre I wish her the very best in the future.
As Dr Gibney departs, we welcome Niamh Murray as her successor as Director.
Our new Director Niamh Murray, as well as being an accomplished soprano, has had a distinguished career in Education which has included her being Principal of Kilmacanogue National School.
Niamh holds a Bachelor of Education degree, is an Associate of the London College of Music, has a Licentiate in Speech and Drama, a diploma from the Public Relations Institute of Ireland, a Master’s degree in Performance and Musicology from Maynooth University and a Master’s degree from Marino Institute of Education in Christian Leadership in Education.
